Watch this 1957 video and you’ll understand why President Tinubu’s decision to remove fuel subsidy was necessary. It opened up the energy sector to competition and ended the era of chronic fuel scarcity. The days of endless queues and sleeping at filling stations are largely behind us. May Nigeria never return to that again.

100mg tramadol is the maximum allowed for medical use in Nigeria and it’s highly controlled yet the truck in this video travelled from Togo through Benin Republic with 558,900 pills of 250mg tramadol buried under the special compartment specifically fabricated with thick iron sheets on the belly of the truck to smuggle the illicit consignment through several borders and security checks. Eventually, all that effort came to nothing because NDLEA @ndlea_nigeria officers acting on credible intelligence intercepted the merchants of death as they entered Lagos and uncovered what they thought no one can discover. Take a look at how it all unravels

Our Renewed Hope Education reforms are delivering measurable results.
I’m pleased to see Nigerian universities record their strongest performance yet in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
This year, 24 Nigerian universities were ranked globally, up from 21 in previous years, making Nigeria the most represented country in Sub Saharan Africa. Even more encouraging, 17 of those institutions are federal universities, reflecting the progress we are making in strengthening our public higher education system.
Congratulations to the University of Ibadan, the University of Lagos, Bayero University Kano, and every Nigerian university recognised in this year’s rankings. This achievement belongs to the entire higher education sector and demonstrates what is possible when institutions are committed to excellence.
These rankings are not just about prestige. They are evidence that our investments in research, innovation, digital transformation, quality assurance, infrastructure, and governance are beginning to translate into global recognition.
Even more encouraging, 27 additional Nigerian universities participated in this year’s assessment, demonstrating a growing commitment to transparency, benchmarking, and continuous improvement.
Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, we remain committed to the Nigerian Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), ensuring our universities produce the knowledge, innovation, and talent that will drive Nigeria’s future.
The work continues.
Troops Arrest Suspected Gunrunner, Recover Three Locally Made Rifles in Plateau
By Zagazola Makama
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered three locally fabricated rifles during a patrol operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the arrest was made at about 10:00 a.m. on June 26 by troops of Sector 4, Sub-Sector 41, Gashish, following the interception of a motorcycle conveying two persons from Kuba in Bokkos Local Government Area towards Maijanki Village in Barkin Ladi.
According to the sources, the troops became suspicious of the movement of the motorcycle and attempted to stop it for a search.
On sighting the troops, the passenger reportedly threw away a bag he was carrying and fled into nearby bushes, while the rider was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
The arrested rider was identified as Alpha Nanfwang, 21, a resident of Panyam in Mangu Local Government Area.
A search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of three locally fabricated rifles.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect claimed that the bag belonged to the fleeing passenger, whom he had picked up from Kuba.
The suspect and the recovered firearms are currently in military custody, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspect and unravel the circumstances surrounding the movement of the weapons.
Security sources said troops have intensified patrols and surveillance across the area to prevent the movement of illegal arms and deny criminal elements freedom of action in Plateau State.
A solar inverter started smoking inside a home. It was moved outside before catching fire.
If your inverter or battery starts smoking, stay away. Lithium battery fires can explode.
This is how terrorism is defeated, not only by neutralising those who pull the trigger, but by dismantling the supply chain that keeps them alive.
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI Arrest Two Suspected Boko Haram Logistics Suppliers, Seize 750 Litres of Fuel
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI intercepted two suspected Boko Haram logistics suppliers along the Buni Gari Bara road in Yobe State, recovering 750 litres of petrol allegedly destined for terrorists. Fuel is the lifeblood of insurgency. Without it, motorcycles cannot move, generators cannot run, and attacks become far more difficult to execute.
Every litre denied to terrorists is a victory for Nigeria. Every logistics network disrupted saves innocent lives.
While critics chase headlines, our security forces continue the painstaking work of cutting off the oxygen that sustains terrorism. This is not the kind of operation that trends on social media, but it is exactly the kind of operation that weakens insurgent groups over time.
Nigeria wins this war not only on the battlefield, but by ensuring that those who feed, fund, fuel, and supply terrorists are brought to justice. That is how lasting security is built.
I have today signed the NIMC Act 2026 into law.
For nearly twenty years, Nigeria’s identity system operated under a law written for a different era. That era is over.
This new Act gives our nation a modern, secure and digital identity framework fit for the Nigeria we are building, a Nigeria on the path to becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy.

Again, Kidnappers Arrested by DSS Convicted, Bag Death Sentence in Ekiti State
Two men arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) have been sentenced to death by an Ekiti State High Court, following their conviction for kidnapping a staff of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
While the kidnappers, Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar, were convicted and sentence of to death, the third defendant, Usman Abubakar, was discharged after the Court found insufficient evidence linking him to the crime.
The case bordered on the 22nd April 2022 abduction of Omoboade Adesina, a female staff member of the NYSC in the state. Both convicts were subsequently arrested and prosecuted by the DSS.
Delivering judgment, the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Lekan Ogunmoye, sentenced both defendants to death by hanging, but discharged the third.
The Chief Judge commended the diligence of DSS prosecutors in proving the case beyond reasonable doubt. He specifically highlighted the identification parade conducted by the Service and the analysis of call data records during investigation as pivotal to the conviction.
The conviction marks yet another major courtroom victory for the DSS. This comies on the heels of a death sentence handed down by a Sokoto High Court against three men convicted of terrorism and cross-border arms proliferation, as well as the conviction a kidnapper in Kogi State earlier secured by the Service among others.
The string of successful prosecutions further underscores the effectiveness of the DSS's intelligence-driven approach to investigating and prosecuting violent crimes. This also reaffirms the commitment of the Service in ensuring that perpetrators of kidnapping, terrorism, and related offences do not escape the full weight of the law.
