I remember when I first arrived in the UK, my very first job was in a chocolate factory and I was did an 8 hour shift with 30 minutes break. There were a lot of Eastern European workers at the factory. At the end of the shift, my feet were aching so bad that I slipped and fell outside the factory but that didnโt stop me from going back the following day. However I stopped after 4 days and moved on to other jobs. The factory is still there!
The agency sent me to do a kitchen porter job in a college in Liverpool, I travelled all the way and did the shift but struggled with the accent so they told the agency not to send me the next day. I was so upset, felt like a failure.
Then I moved on to making beds in one of the big hotels, that job almost broke my bad. Cleaning, care assistant, support work - Iโve done it all. But Iโm proud of my humble beginnings because all of those experiences have shaped me and made me even more resilient. I can confidently say gone on to work with the police in this country and several local authorities, work closely with the family courts and other agencies. I occupy spaces that I never knew existed.
Things might be tough but difficult times and adversities are often temporary. The challenges that we face in life will eventually subside to bring brighter days. Remember storms never last๐ค
