Warning: Personal rambles, and mental health.
I know I read a thank you letter during the birthday stream, but after everything that has happened, I felt like I wanted to write another one. This time, I want to thank everyone again, while also being honest about what this year has been like for me.
Some of you may remember that I made a few posts mentioning that my mental health hasn't been in a good place. I never really explained why because I didn't want to burden anyone. But after some things that happened today, I think I owe it to myself to finally be honest and get these feelings off my chest.
Before I continue, I also want to say I'm sorry. Looking back, I think I should have been more transparent with the people around me much earlier. I kept convincing myself that if I just held on a little longer, everything would eventually get better, and that there was no point in worrying anyone else. Instead, I smiled through it, told everyone I was okay, and quietly carried everything by myself. I realize now that by shutting people out, I may have unintentionally worried or confused those who genuinely cared about me. That was never my intention, and for that, I'm truly sorry.
Like a lot of people already know I've worked alongside Vain as their manager for nearly four years now. During that time, I've seen both incredible successes and difficult struggles. I always believed that those struggles were worth it if we could create something that made people smile. Late nights, stressful projects, and endless events never really bothered me because seeing the community happy made all of it worthwhile. I know Vain feels the same way.
As the community continued to grow for the past year, though, I found myself facing challenges I never expected. I've always believed that kindness is one of the most important things we can give each other. That there are more good than bad. Maybe that's naive, but it's a belief I've held onto for a very long time. This year, that belief has been tested more than I ever imagined.
I found myself dealing with rumors, false accusations, and hurtful comments directed at Vain, my team, and even myself. At first, I did everything I could to understand where people were coming from. I reminded myself that people make mistakes, cultures are all different, communication isn't always perfect, and that with enough patience and kindness, we could work through almost anything.
But as time went on, it became harder to believe that.
The negativity kept growing, and eventually it started to feel like the kindness I wanted to show was simply being taken advantage of. Without even realizing it, I became quieter. More distant. More guarded. The person I used to be slowly disappeared.
I tried to take care of myself. I went back to hobbies I used to love, hoping they would make me feel like myself again. But instead, everything felt empty. The excitement was gone, and more often than not, all I wanted to do was sleep so I wouldn't have to think about everything weighing on my mind.
Today, even on my birthday, I was told about more things that happened behind the scenes. I won't go into details because this isn't meant to call anyone out or start another argument. But I won't lie, it broke something in me.For the first time in a long while, I genuinely felt like screaming.
Despite everything, I don't want this message to be filled with anger. I'm still stubbornly holding onto the belief that kindness matters. I still want to believe that people can choose empathy over cruelty.
But I've also learned that kindness isn't the same as endlessly enduring pain. Even kindness has its limits.
I'm sharing this not because I want sympathy, but because I wanted to be honest. I don't want to keep pretending that everything is okay when it hasn't been. If I've seemed distant lately, or if I haven't been myself, this is why.
I know that perhaps this is simply part of growing.
As our community continues to grow, so do the challenges that come with it. Maybe these are just growing pains, ones that I wasn't prepared for, but ones that I need to learn from.
As difficult as the year has been, it also reminded me of something I had forgotten. I'm not alone. For so long, I convinced myself that I had to carry everything by myself. But today, through all of your birthday wishes, your kind messages, your artwork, your gifts, and all of the love you've shown me, I realized that I have people standing beside me. I have Vain, I have our team, and I have all of you, the Bullies.
I can't put into words how much that means to me.
Thank you for believing in us, for believing in Vain, and for reminding me that there is still so much kindness in this community. Thank you for reminding me why we've continued to pour our hearts into this community for nearly four years.
This year has been one of the hardest years of my life, but for the first time in a long while, I feel like I can finally look forward with hope again. The rain doesn't last forever. Eventually, the clouds clear, and a rainbow appears.
I truly hope that by the end of this year, we can all look back on these difficult moments with smiles on our faces, knowing we made it through them together.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for standing beside us, and for standing beside me. I hope you'll continue walking this journey with us, and I promise that I'll continue doing my very best for all of you.
Happy birthday to my oshi Baihe! 🌸🌿 Thank you for all that you do, esp the incredibly hard work you do behind the scenes. Have a great celebration today and tomorrow (yay timezones!) and we love you!
