A Swiggy delivery partner from Faridabad has become a crorepati after he started writing for Pocket FM.

Ajit Kumar had to abandon his medical studies because of lack of funds when the lockdown disrupted his family’s livelihood. He began delivering food on his bicycle, working 16-hour days and cycling nearly 100 kilometers on some days to complete 20 orders.

Then, tragedy struck: An accident left him with multiple fractures and he was confined to bed. The clock was ticking - loans (taken for his sister’s wedding) were due for repayment.

He lay in bed depressed while searching for WFH jobs. He came across a writer position advertisement for Pocket FM.

He was determined: On some days, he wrote 4 or 5 episodes from his bed.

This week, two PE funds invested in schools, Vitruvian bought stake in K12 Techno and KKR invested in Pathways Gurgaon

But legally, schools in India are required to be non profits by law, no profits, no dividends. So why are PE funds investing in them?

Well, the answer lies in the structure of India’s private school ecosystem

Usually the core school entity remains a non-profit, but then there are these layers of associated companies which are for profit, and they act like service providers and vendors for the non profit entity.

For example, the non profit (school) pays for the service of its own associated for profit company for uniforms, textbooks, real estate, transport, etc

Profits accumulate at the vendor level, not the school trust.

This creates a legal and efficient channel for cash flows, and eventually, returns for investors.

And there have been many deals like this by PE in India’s school ecosystem:

-Kedaara invested Rs 1200 cr in Orchids Intl
-KKR invested Rs 1475 cr in EuroKids, EuroSchools, Lighthouse Learning
-Gaja Capital invested in Kangaroo Kids

What it’s like to receive a job offer directly from Satya Nadella. @kelseyhightower, former Google Distinguished Engineer, on the Microsoft offer that revealed a pay tier he didn't know existed:

“I got this email from Satya, the CEO of Microsoft.

He wrote this nice email: 'Kelsey, heard you had a good experience with the team' - remember I did the interview at the Microsoft headquarters - “heard really good things from the team, just wanted to let you know, you're going to be respected here. We're going to support you as a team.”

I'm like, damn, support as a team? Coming from the CEO?

So, number one, what an honor. This is the CEO of Microsoft. He has so many more important things to be doing than to be emailing me about a role. I opened the PDF - not very often in your career does a zero get added to the equation. And so you're looking at this like, I didn't even know that they do that.

We know that it happens. But the person that graduated from high school in 1999, that chose the A+ Certification didn't know that was available. Even while I was at Google having all the success. Google paid me pretty well too, but I didn't know you can add another zero still.

And I'm like, wow. I showed my wife and she was the one that said you should just go interview, like put your ego to the side and let's go see what's out there, so shout out to my wife.

Giving up on Antigravity today. It’s barely usable with AI plus, so don’t waste time unless you’re on Pro or higher plan. Tried Ag to integrate speckit in an existing toy app. It ran out of quota quickly after creating a few md files!
