For years, the militant settler movement in the West Bank has been portrayed as a collection of rogue outlaw groups and gangs on the fringe of Israeli politics and society. In reality, a broader view of the past two decades shows something very different. What has been built is an organized force, equipped with the means, protection, and logistics to carry out a campaign of ethnic cleansing against Palestinians, particularly in rural communities and towns. The objective is to push them into urban centers, strip them of their land and livelihoods, and prepare the ground for an even wider displacement campaign.
