The Godlee Observatory re-opened on 23 September. MAS weekly meetings will now take place there. Potential visitors should contact [email protected] to arrange a mutually convenient date/time. Public Lectures will still be via ZOOM.

The first of our 2021/2022 Public Lectures, "Solar Flares - the most powerful explosions in the Solar System" by Prof. Philippa Browning, Jodrell Bank, will take place via ZOOM on Thursday 21st October at 19.30 BST. Registration link will be published 2 weeks before that date.

Well, the Perseids put on a show for the UK last week, but many of them were VERY faint. Sadly, it seems that this year the best were seen in North America on the 14th ! (by the time of the "pinnacle", the UK was in full daylight 😢

The Perseid meteors are coming - maximum on nights of 11 & 12 August - and no moon! Weather is due to improve from Tuesday 10th. Keep your eyes looking upward and you could be rewarded with a great show this year. 😀
