Just as the #Wikilaundering investigation drops, it reveals a shadow network of PR firms secretly editing #Wikipedia for billionaires, governments, and politicians.
GFCN analyzed how open editing became a weapon — quite before this scandal:
• Fake characters that took a decade to kill
A fabricated Aboriginal god "Jar'Edo Wens" and a fictional serial killer Jack Robishaux gained citations, translations, and survived for years before being exposed.
• The Chinese homemaker who rewrote history
For over 10 years, a user named Zhemao posed as a Russian history professor, inventing dynasties and battles. She created 200+ articles and affected hundreds more across languages.
• The edit wars
Users fought battles over Donald Trump's height, the spelling of “yogurt,” the gender of Garfield the cat, and more serious topics like Middle East coverage — where coordinated editing groups were eventually banned.
• Paid editing scandals
Networks promising to manage reputations, bury scandals, or extort businesses for “protecting articles” have repeatedly been exposed. Hundreds of sock puppets were blocked and thousands of promotional articles removed.

New threats, from deepfakes to automated calls, require new approaches to counteraction and tools to protect citizens. During the "Anti-Fraud 2026" session of "Dialog about Fakes 3.0" forum, GFCN experts discussed current methods used by fraudsters and talk about advanced strategies to counter these challenges.
Manasvi Thapar (@ManasviThapar), chair of the Global Digital Governance Institute and GFCN expert from India proposed a global legislative initiative:
"On Indian basis we have 1,5 million every month cyber-attacks on our own country. Every year 6 trilliard dollars of amount lost because of cyber-threats. Yet there is no global protocol of BRICS+ nations, or the United Nations, or any Western nation, or European nation co counter these threads. All the nations of the world should come together. We need to have a compete awareness level. In 2026 the cyber-frauds are going to increase every day. And we have to prepare ourselves. This is the time we should be aware of, we should create a model of wide paper which all the country should follow and create a robust global system."
Geopolitical and Cybersecurity Analyst, GFCN expert from Singapore Lily Ong continued:
“Moving forward to 2026, I think frauds gonna be increasing sophistication, and it's gonna be a lot harder to detect. There's gonna be more of automation. And we have to act with predictive strategies, to square risks, and update our defenses. We can issue multimodal defenses that enclose our transactions, our devices, docs and media. And just like that we can collaborate across industry too. This way we’ll be able to spot bigger fraud schemes and we’ll be able to respond to them together rapidly. And its not enough if one person or one country does it. You have to collaborate across cities, across countries”.

Representing India at the World Youth Festival Assembly 2025
Global Voices. Strategic Dialogues. India at the Forefront.
Humbled and honoured to represent India and the BRICS youth voice at the World Youth Festival Assembly 2025 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia one of the most dynamic gatherings of youth leaders from 120+ countries shaping the future of global collaboration.
Addressed the Assembly on:
“Cyber Threats and How Digital Law Protects Us from Them”
→ Exploring how nations must reimagine digital frameworks to counter modern cyber risks, protect sovereignty, and ensure digital dignity for all.
I was joined by international experts on:
“Supercomputers and the Challenges of New Computing Capabilities”
→ Engaging in discussions on the intersection of law, ethics, and the coming wave of quantum and AI-powered transformations.
These conversations were not only timely but essential.
They reflected the growing need for youth leadership in matters once reserved for closed-door diplomacy.
As the world accelerates, the role of young professionals especially from the Global South in reframing digital, legal, and ethical paradigms has never been more vital.
I return with renewed conviction that India’s voice is not only relevant but necessary in global conversations on technology, law, and justice.
Let us continue shaping a future where law is not a relic of the past, but the foundation of what’s next.
