There’s a funny story about Pep.

Johan Cruyff wanted La Masia boys to join the first team, so he asked for the best players in the reserve team.

They mentioned some players, but also told him that, there’s some guy, his name is Pep, he’s very technical but his size is quite small, not that quick too.

He watched the reserve play and Pep wouldn’t even start, usually on the bench because he was quite small.

Johan Cruyff said that’s the guy he wants. He invited Pep to the first team and the rest is history. Cruyff knew that to control games, you need those type of players.

Similar case when Pep was promoted to be the first team manager at Barcelona, he promoted Busquets immediately also, because Busquets was similar to him as a player and he fit that Cruyff’s philosophy of control.
