@DMcalean @QueerlyAutistic Political opponents were immediately dealt with for sure. But I recall trans and disabled came first in terms of broader groups that they considered offensive to their Aryan ideals. Even gay men weren't immediately targeted in the same way until a year or so later.

Perhaps people will look back in a decade and see that Emily Thornberry is in fact one of those who are displaying courage in this situation.

@DanielJHannan For a Christian, it is surely preferable to be acutely conscious of one's sins (both of commission and of omission) than to loudly trumpet one's good actions. The latter leads to pride, which I believe is warned against and would be particularly obnoxious in a state church.

@JohnMappin I would kindly add that you benefit from religious liberty to practise Scientology, and I fully support your right to do so. But once the religious liberty of two of the great religions of the world has been undermined, don't be surprised if they come after your religion next.

@JohnMappin I suspect our sane Muslim and Jewish friends will recognise that this has nothing to do with animal rights and will tell you what it is about. I hope you will ask them. This is not religious liberty, and I recommend at least being honest about that.

@JohnMappin Yet banning Kosher and Halal will make it impossible for them to practise freely - which is precisely religious liberty. I genuinely think this is beneath you, so I hope you will give some thought as to whether this is really where you want to be. Religious liberty it is not.

@Nassreddin2002 The BNP was getting very similar numbers in exactly the same areas in the mid-2000s - when the opposition pre-Cameron Conservatives were very much eurosceptic, anti-asylum, etc, under Duncan-Smith and Howard. Tony Blair was the beneficiary. Let's hope Burnham will be this time.

@ThePosieParker @LGBwiththeT It wasn't reflective of the time it was in. Anita Bryant was reflective of what Florida was like in the 1980s. That's why Michael Tolliver fled from Florida to San Francisco. GG were way ahead of the time.
