1/8 It’s Children in Need season. I always feel like an absolute grinch critiquing it because it’s so beloved and obviously raises much needed cash. But my ick outweighs my discomfort at being impolite so here we go (a thread)
The use of fear to control children is so ubiquitous that most adults don’t even realise they are doing it. They’d never describe what they are doing that way. But in so many different ways, the children feel it. Here’s what it looks like. 1/
@NurseTutor_Sara I think email is not a normal form of communication any more for many younger people. Messaging apps tend to have better response but aren't within the normal uni communication system.
@KaySocLearn In case it helps anyone else challenging a school- ours changed when challenged on whether this meets equality act legislation in relation to gender. All students are now able to use loos in lessons and different approach being used to tackle behaviours. Can share letter wording.

I recently interviewed a group of people with #LearningDisabilities for a new book. They all voted on ‘distress’ or ‘signs of distress’ to replace ‘challenging behaviour’ or ‘behaviour that challenges’ They said the reason I self injure or hit someone is because I’m distressed

A couple weeks ago, I had a good friend diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma (brain tumor). She underwent surgery. Of course they couldn't get it all and I visited to help her and her children decide on the next steps. 1/x
