They ran AI-doctored photos on TV to make him look more attractive, and more innocent. Millions of people circulated these photos on Facebook.
Their minds will never change now. Even when they find out the photos are fake, they’ve already decided they know what they saw. There’s no undoing it.
Clearly, this will be a component of every major breaking news story from now on. Don’t be afraid to call it out when you see it, but be aware that most people won’t listen.

I actually really do think that this says quite a lot. And, no, I don’t think you can completely resolve it just by saying that one of them was at the hands of the state and one of them wasn’t. That’s not sufficient to explain why one of these rocks liberals to their core and the other one doesn’t.
