“Behind The Bush in the Garden” is a lively jig with roots in Scotland and a long life in Irish tradition. This post explores its origins, evolution, and why it remains a favorite in sessions today.

The Flatt Run isn’t just a lick—it’s a blueprint for bluegrass improvisation. Learn how this classic phrase (rooted in “Shave & a Haircut”) can shape your playing and phrasing 🎶 #Bluegrass#Mandolin#Guitar
“As I Went Out on the Ice” is a traditional Irish polka whose exact origins and composer are unknown, but stylistically it fits with the lively Sliabh Luachra polka tradition on the Cork–Kerry border. #IrishPolka#DanceMusic#Mandolin
“Roll in My Sweet Baby’s Arms” isn’t just a jam tune—it’s a journey from bawdy British folk to bluegrass staple. Hear the history and the music come together 🎶 #Bluegrass#FolkMusic#Mandolin
We canceled our X membership and will let it expire in April. We registered originally because we were told there would be fewer ads (there were more), fewer Grok caps (it was capped more) and a traffic boost (we didn't notice it).
New mandolin video: the slip jig “A Kid on the Mountain.” I learned it from banjo player John Rough in the late 1980s and have played it ever since. A great session tune with a moody journey between Aeolian and Ionian modes.

Old-time fiddle tune “Off She Goes” on the mandolin 🎶
This tune has been around for centuries and shows up in American old-time, Irish sessions, and even classical theme-and-variations pieces. Simple melody, but it really moves when you get it up to tempo.

@CitizenWald Thanks!
Yes when I was at Hampshire, it was THE go-to spot for bluegrass musicians. This was 1980-1984ish. A frequent hangout spot for really good players too. Grisman shopped here when he came to the Iron Horse, so did Trischka
