Lots of reax already about the length of the season next year. First regular-season games are on Aug. 29. National championship game on Jan. 25. Way too long, even for pros. Notice what phrase you never hear anymore from school presidents — “student-athlete welfare?”
A few thoughts (non-Clemson related) after watching the first round of the new 12 team CFP format as a fan…
1) 12 teams are too many teams…there are probably only 4-6 teams at most that have a legit shot to win a Nat’l Championship each year…football is different than basketball…extremely hard to have Cinderella story in fb…it’s better for teams ranked 9-12 to go to a great bowl game and get the full bowl experience
2) No more conference championship games (relatively meaningless now….all about the playoffs…name a reg season conference champion based on conf record and tie breakers)…this would allow the playoffs to start a week earlier
3) Reduce # of teams from 12 teams to a new 8 team playoff (seed teams 1-8 based on final ranking of 8 best teams after regular season…..no more AQs for each P4 conference champ)
4) Top 4 seeds get home playoff game round one. Home playoff games are a MAJOR reward that the top 4 teams/fan bases should be able to experience
5) The combination of canceling conf championship games and reducing playoff field from 12 to 8….first round (8 teams) would have been played Dec 14th….second round (4 teams) would have been Dec 21…. National Championship game could have been played Jan 1-3
6) Football Season would be over by Jan 3rd rather of Jan 20th (under current plan)…
7) This gives all players on any bowl/playoff team enough time to play in bowl game/playoff and then get in portal after the bowl/playoff game…it will be extremely difficult for any player playing in the Nat’l Championship game on Jan 20th to get in portal after the game and get accepted by admissions at a new school (that has already started academic classes for spring semester)
8) Also would reduce the number of weekends that cfb has to compete with NFL for primetime TV slots during cfb playoffs…
9) Would reduce total number of possible games played for Nat’l Champion to 15 games instead of a crazy 17 game season that would be possible under current format
It’s amazing to think of all that’s changed in college football in the past 5 years and yet the “I woke up feeling the cheesiest” commercial has withstood the test of time, airing 63 times every Saturday unchanged.
Grateful that @natashahastings shared her story in our Sports Media and Society class this morning. Powerful. Insightful. Inspiring. @UofSC_SJMC@NABJ_UofSC

Deion Sanders on Jay Norvell:
"I'm happy for the brother. I really am. I'm happy that they fought and played a good game. I'm happy he's a head coach. I'm happy for any brother that's doing it and successful, man. I truly am."
