🚨Important Statement on https://t.co/y1of7JIlkX
150,000 people a month could lose access to part of a wildfire service because https://t.co/ZpEaQhRg6j @FogosPt@VOSTPT has blocked API access to https://t.co/suPLRzm2Vl. Here’s why I believe they’ve got it wrong.
Today I was informed that https://t.co/suPLRzm2Vl has been denied access to the https://t.co/ZpEaQhRg6j API.
https://t.co/suPLRzm2Vl is used by more than 150,000 people every month to monitor wildfires across Portugal and Spain. It exists to make critical wildfire information easier to access, understand and share.
The reason given for refusing API access is that the website contains optional premium features.
I respectfully disagree with that interpretation.
https://t.co/suPLRzm2Vl does not sell https://t.co/ZpEaQhRg6j’s data, nor does it place that data behind a paywall. The API is just one of many data sources integrated into the platform, alongside satellite detections, weather data, property risk analysis, alerts and other independently developed features.
The optional subscription simply helps cover the cost of servers, infrastructure and ongoing development. It is not a charge for access to https://t.co/ZpEaQhRg6j’s data.
What makes this particularly difficult to understand is that VOST Portugal has participated in European-funded projects worth more than €700,000, aimed at supporting innovation, collaboration and improving emergency management. Against that backdrop, preventing an independent platform that serves more than 150,000 people every month from accessing the API because it has a sustainable funding model appears contrary to those objectives.
This decision doesn’t just affect me as the developer. It affects the people who rely on https://t.co/suPLRzm2Vl every day during wildfire season to stay informed and protect their families, homes and communities.
I’ve asked VOST Portugal to reconsider their decision and I’m sharing the correspondence below so everyone can read it and form their own opinion.
@dariolm@yacineMTB It’s being used within the context of information theory. It measures
“uncertainty” or the level of “surprise”.
Since OP says it has zero entropy, it means whatever the LLM produces is completely predictable, there’s no chance of another string of tokens being produced
