वर्ष 1998 में किश्तवाड़ जिला मुख्यालय से 30 किमी दूर ठाकराई इलाके के शनना और सरावां गांव में जिहादी आतंकवादियों ने 17 निहत्थे हिंदुओं को मार दिया था। इस आतंकी हमले में वीरगति को प्राप्त हुए सभी 17 हिंदुओं को शत्-शत् नमन।

गत कहीं वर्षों से किश्तवाड़ में बलिदान स्मारक को बनाने की मांग किश्तवाड़ के राष्ट्रवादी समाज द्वारा की जा रही थी, आज किश्तवाड़ के कोकिला चौक में बलिदान स्मारक बन कर तैयार है। बलिदान स्मारक को बनाने के लिए भारतीय सेना, जिला प्रशासन का हार्दिक धन्यवाद।
