Are you a student or professor in psychology -- or any of the social sciences?
If so, you've definitely seen this mistake before.
It's all over the textbooks and journal articles.
You might have seen it formulated in any of these ways:
- Is that behavior evolved or learned?
- Innate or acquired?
- Biological or environmental?
- Evolutionary or sociocultural?
This is 100% the wrong way to think about it.
My newest publication (out now in American Psychologist, @APA_Journals) shows exactly why this is wrong and suggests a better, more accurate alternative:

Pls consider RTing for greater spread. Thanks! 🙏

How much time do you spend working each day?
On an average day, people in China and Mexico spend almost twice as much time on paid work as people in Italy and France do. This is a general pattern: people in richer countries can afford to work less.
The French seem to spend much more time eating than the British — and in this respect, the data goes in line with stereotypes about food culture. People in France, Greece, Italy, and Spain report spending more time eating than people in most other European countries. The country where people spend the least time eating and drinking is the USA.

By an enormous coincidence, every aspect of culture peaked when you were a teenager: music, movies, fashion, you name it. And the amazing thing is that this applies no matter how old you are! https://t.co/2iRScuGojW
@VScheinsohn but yes, we intentionally decided to publish it in german because 1) there are lots of evol books in english (not so in german) and 2) we wanted to give german speaking people an easy option to get an overview of this kind of research (we need to catch up a bit here).
Today our (with Sascha Schwarz & Kai Willführ) interdisciplinary anthology ‘Evolutionary Social Sciences’ was published (electronic, print version to follow shortly). It's in german to provide low-threshold access for interested students/researchers in german-speaking countries.
Heute ist unser (mit Sascha Schwarz und Kai Willführ) interdisziplinärer Sammelband "Evolutionäre Sozialwissenschaften. Ein Rundgang" erschienen (elektronisch, Printversion folgt in Kürze): https://t.co/f9SWITUpfR
