"Wolf? Hah. I'm a deer, sweetheart " he mused, getting used to his fate. Still, he had his fair share of partners and swindlers. Adelaide however was his soul mate. "Hm...I suppose we can keep quiet for now."
"Im sure there will..you have..quite the reputation...especially...when it comes to partners...you've always been a lone-wolf darling but this is extreme even for you"
@VoxsLittleImp ::OOf. Check for polyps or like...deviated septum. That's where my migraines originated albeit the sleep apnea also corrupted my breathing::
"...well that's quite the question, ain't it...?" She thought for a moment
"...I want to be everything I was not allowed to be to you while we were on earth."
"So I see.." He whispered, giving a genuine smile. "Well, eat up first, and then I will be your gracious host for the evening" Til Afterdeath do them part.
she nodded "I am.. I checked in...sort of in the middle of everything...to my dismay to find I was too late to catch you.." she replied "but that doesn't matter much now, we're here now, and i'd like that very much"
"I know he did.. and.. I'm sure more that I can't see" she lowered her voice. It wasn't pity, but there was a familiarity in her tone that seemed to know already.
"honey, I don't think Vox is... much of a threat anymore." she cooed as she stroked her thumb across his knuckles. "at least at this moment.. and Val's gonna be too busy putting out his fires"
"know what? .. that we're married?
It never exactly...came up." she shrugged
"I wouldn't be surprised if he does.. the vees seem to be able to get their claws on information regardless.. but no.. I never told him ..about us."
His brow raised. "Does the Moth know...?" After all, he'd been locked in the tower prior. Even saw a few things he wished he hadn't. Geugh. Suddenly, the demon was no longer hungry.
"the pay was decent.. after the last extermination day, I was desperate.. but I'm not.. sellin myself, if that's what you're worried about. I look after Val's girls. y'know. keep em fed and clean and up to date on their shots"
she reached across the small table and clasped his hands in hers
"darlin I could never be ashamed 'a you..not then, not ever.. the law couldn't keep me away from you and it seems neither can death... if anything.. I worry.. you might be ashamed to have someone as .. weak as me"
"Not how I recall things, but I suppose I'll take your word..." did Rosie put strange visions in his head? Had he forgotten? Had he obtained too much power thst when he was stabbed by Adam he regained whatever humanity he had left?
"well I suppose it's only natural.. you were shot in the head--" she scoffed "Darlin there's plenty of blood on my hands too... whether it's a sin of omission coverin' for you, or the lives I took on my own.. I aint entirely innocent... but darlin... I was never ashamed 'a you"
"Every King needs a queen, dear Adelaide. I suppose when I was conjured to the afterlife, I lost some memories in the process. Then again, as previously stated, I would have sworn youd be up with my mother. " he paused. "And you, me? We're you not ashamed of me back on earth?"
now.. and what sorta person I was.. If you'd even still want me.
I mean.. little bird like me.. no territory, no power, no influence.. what all good would I be to the strongest sinner in hell?"
"perhaps you never thought to look for me here...after all, you seemed surprised to see me... I could have been another face in the crowd...another person fixing your coat.." her lips twitched with a knowing smile.
she nodded as she looked up from her food
"It does.. feels right.. the two of us, sharin a meal again.. I've.. missed this... you can.. lose yourself in this place.. if you don't know where you belong.."
"they do" she chuckled "and you know I've never been able to resist a shiny thing." she took another bite, savoring the familiar taste. The warmth that had begun to settle in her gut was not only from the food but the familiar feeling of being home again, finally.
she tilted her head to the side as she set down her spoon and her ruffled feathers began to settle.
"well you always did call me your little songbird.. though Magpies aren't exactly known for being particularly melodic.
