This is a 233km (4 and 6 lane dual carriageway) Rironi - Mau summit highway which is currently under construction in Kenya and to be completed by 2027.
Should the cost escalate from $1.4 billion to $2.25 billion, it will be the most expensive road in the continent tripping Entebbe-Kampala expressway that cost Uganda $9.2 million per km. It's going to cost Kenya $9.7m per km.

Just like other mega projects, this is a PPP project. Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Maintain (DBFOM) for 30 years. Kenya has never risked going in all in such projects by herself.

I have spent three hours moving between Victoria to Goba. This is not just traffic; it is a lived preview of Dar es Salaam’s future.

As the city moves toward megacity status, over 10 million people by 2030. Our current urban model is reaching its limits. Incremental road expansions will not solve a structural problem of scale, form, and concentration.

Dar es Salaam needs a fundamental rethink: decentralisation, mass transit as the backbone of mobility, and potentially the development of a new, well-planned urban node outside the existing core, a “New Dar es Salaam” designed for productivity, livability, and resilience from day one.
