Cultural shock 102:
During medicine management class, we were discussing how to dispose of old or unused medications. The lecturer then asked who is responsible for disposing unused medicines at home.
Without hesitation, I answered that people should throw them in a special labeled trash at home or flush them down the toilet😭 Classmates from other third world countries concurred🤣
We were then told that disposing medicines that way is illegal and can lead to serious consequences such as fines, if we’re caught. In the EU, people are responsible for returning unused or expired medicines to pharmacies.
Pharmacies are the only licensed places allowed to collect and safely dispose of medications. Flushing or throwing them in household trash is strictly forbidden because of environmental and public health risks.
Crazy how a lack of local knowledge can turn innocent actions into serious consequences. God abeg😂
This is nasty! But in a country where the regulator has repeatedly used false info to undermine a legal project like Dangote Refineries, perhaps, the nasty framing of corruption allegations on the regulator is also an acceptable one. Dangote is fighting to protect his investment
Yet observers like ECOWAS & AU legitimise these elections all the time. They fail to make headways in influencing reforms, good governance, etc. In fact, they are a regional cabal for the politicians in govt. Their significance is no more.
@NickBuckleyMBE You say they're poorly trained yet you employed them in the first place?! Very condescending to say that immigrant nurses are inferior.
Growing up in Kano left scars I still carry.
In 2004, I watched a woman frying akara, an innocent mother, brutally murdered with her baby right in front of me, and that horror never left my mind.
The only reason I was spared was because I spoke Hausa and looked like a northerner. My late best friend said my name was Hafsat and that’s how I was left alive to pass.
It shaped the way I react when people downplay the violence happening in the North. I lived it.
I saw the poverty, the street children starving, the chaos bleeding into places that were once peaceful.
I saw more killings during my service year in Jos, and it shattered whatever hope I had left.
Nigeria feels like it’s sinking, and it terrifies me to see people who should be advocating for better governance, claiming there’s no genocide.
It seems President Tinubu has suddenly forgotten his famous campaign slogan emi lo kan (it is my turn). It is indeed your turn to tackle the tragedies & wanton killings. Condolence messages & press releases are platitudes for the news cycle. Roll your sleeves & do your job.
