So, imagine if the government comes out with "Yeah, aliens exist."
And then also imagine if they covered it up for 80 years and were working on reverse engineering technology.
Imagine all of the science that has been withheld from the public, all of the technology that could have helped us move forward as a species - but it was hidden intentionally. If this is all true, they literally shit on all of humanity because of their lust of conquest and greed.
Humanity isn't a good species; we murder our own on a whim. We let each other starve, and we let our governments divide us. If any aliens are watching us, it's to make sure that we don't go out into the vastness of the universe and cause more damage by our lust for conquest.
