I was saddened to hear that Dolly Parton died today. She was one of those rare Americans who everyone just seemed to like. She had 11 brothers and sisters, and they grew up in a one-bedroom log cabin in the mountains of Tennessee. She often talked about going to a small church where her grandfather preached, and she started singing hymns and playing guitar there at a very young age. I'm sure her family would appreciate your prayers.

A Short Meeting at the Bank

We had only stopped at the bank for 5 minutes. Just 5 minutes.

I was using the ATM at that time and told my son to stay close to me and not to wander off. But he was very curious that day. Sometimes he would ask me about the ceiling fan, and other times he would ask how money "comes out of the wall." Such strange questions from a little kid.
Then suddenly I saw him talking to two California Highway Patrol officers near the entrance as if they were old friends. He was being both shy and bold.
I immediately thought that he might be bothering them, so I hurried over to him. Just as I was about to apologize, one officer bent down to his level and handed him a shiny sticker badge.
And then what happened? My son lit up with joy as he received the gift, as if he had been promoted in the police force. He began to think of himself as an officer.
He started asking questions about their walkie-talkies and what the buttons did.
Then he asked the funniest question:
"Do police officers eat donuts, or do they just save them for emergencies?" 🍩😂 Hearing that made me laugh too.
That little meeting of just 5 minutes became a memorable day for my son.

Filmed last week in Tampa. Senior dog wing. Elderly man named Robert, 82, visiting shelter with walker. Moving slowly. Carefully.
Daughter brought him. "Dad, you need companionship. Maybe a senior dog?" Robert skeptical. "I'm too old. Can barely walk." Staff brought Robert to senior wing. Five older dogs.
Robert looked at 13-year-old Beagle named Walter.
Both gray. Both moving carefully. Both slow. Robert knelt slowly beside Walter. Took two minutes to get down. Walter watched patiently. Waiting. When Robert finally down, Walter walked slowly into Robert's arms. Both gray faces pressed together.
Both breathing heavy from effort. Daughter filming.
Crying. "Dad, Walter moves exactly like you. Same pace. Same careful steps." Robert started crying.
"Walter's old like me. Walter understands." Robert told us: "My wife passed away last year. I'm 82. Can barely walk. Thought I was too old for a dog. Then I see Walter. 13 years old. Gray. Slow. Careful. Just like me. Walter doesn't need someone young and energetic. Walter needs someone who moves at his speed. That's me." Robert adopted Walter last week .
They walk together every morning. Both using slow, careful steps. Same pace. Matching. Robert posted on X: "I'm 82 with walker. Adopted
13-year-old dog. We're both old. Both slow. Both gray. We match perfectly. Walter and I will grow old together at the same pace." Post went viral. 5 million views. Comments: "Perfect match." "Two seniors helping each other." Veterinarian said,

Thomas wasn’t looking to adopt. He wasn’t even searching for a dog. He was only stopping by Riverside Animal Shelter to drop off donated supplies before heading home. But then he met Hank. Hank was a three-year-old mixed breed who had spent seven months waiting for someone to choose him. Many people had walked past him, and every time someone left, his heart broke a little more. Thomas sat with him for just a few minutes. He scratched his ears, gave him some love, and then stood up to leave. That’s when Hank reached out and grabbed his sleeve. He wasn’t trying to stop him with force. He was just scared of losing another person. His paws held onto Thomas’s arm as he quietly shook, begging without making a sound. Thomas stopped. He looked down at Hank… then sat back on the floor. The moment he did, Hank climbed into his lap, relaxed, and pressed his face into his shoulder. That was the moment Thomas knew. He called his landlord, arranged everything, and before the shelter closed that day, Hank finally had a home. Sometimes we don’t choose the dog… sometimes the dog finds us.
