Truly Hand Crafted is a new series and inside look at how we make our solid shell drums, custom hardware and drum heads. In this episode the focus is on turning stainless steel and Middle Eastern Steer (our shop favorite) into a PreMounted™ Conga Head. https://t.co/GDICdM6LjB
How has hand drumming impacted your physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual health?
There’s growing research — and ancient wisdom — that tells us: rhythm heals.
Hand drumming has been used for centuries in ceremonies, therapy, and community healing. It’s more than music.
We will be closed September 20th through October 5th. Online orders are still welcome during this period and will be processed beginning October 6. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to serving you upon return.
Bonkó Restoration Project – From Cuba to Japan to New Life
We recently completed restoration work on a Bonkó sent to us by a customer in Japan. This unique drum required extensive care and craftsmanship to bring it back to performance condition.
Our hardware is expertly fabricated from 304 stainless steel, known for its outstanding strength, corrosion resistance, and polished finish. Each piece is designed for long-lasting performance and visual appeal—reflecting our dedication to superior craftsmanship.
We recently upgraded two vintage quinto drums: an oak Valje 11" and a cherry LP Valje 11". Ryan fabricated custom 304 stainless steel flesh hoops, providing a precise and lasting fit. I mounted 1.8mm thick Middle Eastern steer hides, delivering a warm, articulate tone.
We recently had the pleasure of working on a beautiful set of cherry wood LP Valje Armando Peraza Series bongos. These drums are not only visually striking—they carry a deep lineage tied to the evolution of Afro-Cuban percussion and the legacy of one of its most iconic figures.
We recently finished these drums for Manito's sister. These solid shell spalted rock maple bongos were made with wood sourced sustainably from Athens, GA. They feature our handmade 304 stainless steel hardware, satin finish and steer skins.
Natural heads tend to perform best in stable conditions—ideally around 70% humidity and 75°F (24°C). Maintaining this environment helps preserve the integrity of the skin.
We recently had the honor of working on a truly special set of drums—an oak Skin on Skin conga set crafted by legendary drum builder Jay Bereck. These instruments are not only sonically rich but also historically significant.
Our Premium PreMounted™ Conga Heads feature natural skins mounted on 1/4″ round 304 stainless steel flesh hoops. These heads are designed to fit drums with specific shell sizes and crown types right out of the box. https://t.co/S9WB42PdpR
Our beaters are handcrafted in-house for a wide range of applications, including use with bells. Made from durable synthetic materials, they are designed to withstand heavy use while maintaining consistent performance. https://t.co/4IfzF0xsRR
FOR SALE! This LP Performer Series 12.5″ Tumba is a used drum with a few minor cosmetic blemishes. It features an amber 2.2mm Fat Cat™ Buffalo head, and sounds great! This drum is sold as is. Use this link. https://t.co/36sxAHsHhf
Natural skin heads have been used with success for thousands of years. They are made from rawhide harvested from animals. Among other things, natural skins are comprised of collagen, elastin and lipids. https://t.co/sTSBvQBO3E
