A recent controversy over the construction of a 90° bridge in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has drawn nationwide attention, with reports stating that engineers and officials involved have now been suspended due to poor design.

However, a similar concern exists in Dakshina Kannada, at Mura near Puttur, where a 90° bridge was constructed across the railway track on the Padil–Subrahmanya Road section of the Mangaluru–Hassan railway line — a key route connecting Mangaluru and Bengaluru.

This bridge, built around 5–10 years ago, connects Mura to Kedila and Perne, and links NH-275 (Mani–Mysuru Highway) through an unscientifically aligned sharp right-angled road on both ends. Over the past few years, this unsafe layout has caused numerous accidents and continues to endanger lives.

On May 27, 2025, a serious accident occurred at this very location. A car from Puttur took a right turn towards this bridge when it was hit by a Mercy bus traveling from Bengaluru to Mangaluru. Of the three passengers in the car, two were seriously injured, and one is still in a coma, admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru.

Local residents are deeply concerned and urge the authorities to re-evaluate the bridge structure and approach road alignment, and to construct a safer, scientifically designed road layout to prevent further tragedies.

We sincerely request @SWRRLY, @NHAI_Official, @osd_cmkarnataka and the concerned road and civic authorities to take immediate action and ensure the safety of commuters on this important railway section.
