From your first four words, I can already tell you woke up quite upset. But that’s understandable. I’d probably be upset too if my assets had been frozen and EOCO is chasing me around. But that’s a story for another day. My prayers are with you, my friend. Hopefully, you survive these troubling times.

For your information and, perhaps, a little learning too: according to the Cambridge Dictionary, a fact is “something that is known to have happened or to exist, especially something for which proof exists, or about which there is information.”

With that in mind, facts and evidence are not the same thing, but evidence can support, establish, or substantiate a fact.

It is therefore only logical that when someone presents a number of factual claims, people may ask for the evidence supporting those claims.

For example:

You are not very competent at your job — evidenced by the fact that you led your candidate to what has been described as the largest electoral defeat in Ghanaian history.
You are a major reason the NPP is losing members.
Even at the municipal level, you failed to prove your usefulness, which is why you were sacked.
You are the first person I’ve encountered who campaigned against policies of his own government in an attempt to win an election.

The statements above are claims presented as facts. The attached materials are the evidence being provided to support them.

So when you present facts and someone asks, “What is the evidence?”, that is not a strange question. It is literally how factual claims are tested.
