I am super grateful that the @NSF's chemistry division, and the American public decided to support my group's research on photochemistry for the next three years! 💰🧪 This is my first major funding award. Thanks goes to all previous group members and mentors over the decades.
The fascinating story of Thalidomide: how this most notorious drug on the planet, banned in the 1960s, made an incredible comeback and revolutionized the treatment of myeloma.
I will also highlight one person whose role is not recognized: Without Dr. Leif Bergsagel there will be no thalidomide for myeloma.

It shows drug development from bedside to bench and back to bedside.
It shows the power and impact of astute clinicians
It shows the power of investigator courage
The role of serendipity
Quick shout out to Asst Prof of Med Chem Zarko Boskovic. He mentors a dual major (chem & biochem) undergraduate student, Ian Shire from Lawrence, who has been selected for a prestigious Courtwright Award for Undergraduate Research Excellence. Congrats to both Ian and Dr. Boskovic
Manvendra Singh dreamt of becoming a pediatrician before he fell in love with organic chemistry. He still loves children and his young ones inspire him to approach designing diverse and complex compounds in the same way they approach life: with fearlessness, creativity, and awe.
Taking "induction of proximity" to a new level, Arena BioWorks, a Biomedical Research Institute that just launched in Boston, is bringing academic inquiry and biotech creation under one roof. https://t.co/b30zfMtEkA
Excited to be part of the inaugural team at Arena BioWorks @arenabioworks and to work with the amazing scientists assembled there to advance human therapeutics with this new model for scientific innovation and discovery
If you are a student or you have students who need to (re)learn concepts from organic chemistry and get instant feedback with lots of examples, you can suggest they try these custom-made "Chemlets":
