Jonah didn’t want his enemies to receive the mercy of God. He fled God’s presence instead of serving as God’s instrument to bring them to salvation.

As Christians, we must cultivate a deep desire to see our enemies repent and turn to Christ and be saved. We pray imprecations, and yet long for the sinner to receive mercy and repent.

We should hate the sin of abortionists, seek to make such vile practices illegal, and even pray for judgment—yet long also that they might repent and know Christ.

We should hate the evil, demonic catechesis of feminism in the land, oppose them at every opportunity, and yet desire their repentance.

What category of people do you view like Jonah viewed Nineveh? Is it the Jews? Rightwing nationalists who don’t know the Lord? “Anti-Semites”? Feminists? Liberals? Is there a category of men you deem “unhuman”?

Yes, the state must be a terror to evil. Child murderers should be justly put to death. Those who subvert our nation must be legally and politically opposed at all costs.

And yet. We pray even these means, as well as the preaching of the Gospel, would cause them to repent, know Christ, and turn from their evil ways.
