Dear Mr. Rufai Oseni,
Good morning My name is Chenemi Joseph, and I am a follower of your work on Arise TV and on X (@Chenemijoz). I have always admired how you use your platform to amplify the voices of ordinary Nigerians facing hardship and injustice, which gives me the courage to reach out to you today.
I am writing to seek your urgent help regarding my mother's deteriorating health due to lung cancer. She is in a critical condition, and we are struggling to get proper medical attention and support.
Here is a brief summary of what has happened: My mother was initially diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) and placed on anti-TB medication for over a month. When her condition did not improve (persistent coughing with blood), doctors described it as a TB complication and recommended surgery.
She underwent surgery at the Cardiothoracic Unit (CTU), where her lower right lung was removed. The removed tissue was sent for histology, which later confirmed adenocarcinoma (lung cancer).
After recovery from surgery, she was started on chemotherapy (3-week intervals). We completed tests including CT scan, LFT, and FBC before chemo began.
After the second chemo session, she began coughing blood again.
The oncologist said it was a normal reaction to the chemotherapy affecting the lungs, so we continued.
However, her condition has worsened dramatically: the coughing blood has increased severely, she now has constant shortness of breath, sleepless nights, and extreme weakness.
Recent X-rays (which we sent to the doctor) show concerning issues, but the oncologist has stopped responding to our calls and messages. Another doctor we consulted said the situation is worrying but claimed it is outside his jurisdiction.
My mother is suffering immensely, and we fear for her life. The current treatment seems to be making things worse rather than better, and we desperately need a second opinion.
Transfer to a better-equipped hospital for proper care.
Financial assistance, as the medical bills have exhausted our resources.
I have attached some medical reports, X-ray images, and recent photos showing her current state for your reference.
Sir, I am pleading for your intervention. If you could kindly feature our story on your twitter page, help connect us with medical experts, or assist in any way to draw attention to this case, it would mean the world to us.
Many Nigerians face similar challenges with healthcare, and your voice could help save my mother's life.
