My new piece argues that Bangalore’s gig rider is not just a worker. He is human middleware - an API for convenience in a city that scales by making some bodies absorb the friction others no longer see.

He carries dinner, yes. But also potholes, monsoon spray, wrong pins, fake landmarks, blocked lanes, apartment-gate bureaucracy, customer impatience, and the theology of “instant.”

The app did not remove distance. It found cheaper people to carry it.

The app may fail.
The QR code may expire.
Facial recognition may hesitate.
But the guard knows.
He is not merely security. He is reception, pattern-recognition engine, human firewall, gossip node, and soft sovereign of the gate.

In a city where formal systems rarely connect cleanly, we insert a human layer to absorb the ambiguity.

The guard is Bangalore’s API for trust.
