@DrSdeG@CJaneHaines Terrible, but don’t underestimate how much you offer by sitting with that distress in the time they are with you … kindness and compassion are so vital 💔
If I see a child/teenager in psychological distress, I have NOTHING I can offer them. Waits for school councelling up to 2 yrs in most places, CAMHS not a chance unless florid psychosis.
Early help isn't the right thing.
So unless the family has money.....nothing 😔
@Lara_Fergie99 Love you’re still here. You have lots of physical healing to do but people who don’t “get” mental distress CAN understand that, it can be a symbol of how broken you feel can’t it? The real distress seems to be already working out how to be fixed ❤️🩹 You are unique, loved, matter ❤️
Tonight I spoke at an event in Parliament on anorexia and the Assisted Dying Bill. If passed, this flawed Bill will place disabled people - incl those with eating disorders - at risk of needless death.
The Assisted Dying Bill is awful. All amendments tabled by people concerned about disability were rejected. Anorexia falls within the definition of terminal illness: this is abhorent and contrary to mainstream, evidence-based psychiatry. All MPs should vote against this Bill.

A plea to @wesstreeting - in recent years, Labour has always championed mental health, please do not change that.
Suicide is the leading cause of death among men aged 35-49 and for men and women aged 20-34 years
I know times are tough, but we have to prioritise mental health and suicide prevention
As well as being the right thing to do, the economics are also clear: in 2022, suicide had an overall cost of at least £9.58 billion in the UK.

“My mother, who I lost this year, wasn’t welcome in department stores as a young woman, but for eight years she had the best view in America from her room at the White House.”
-Michelle Obama, Orator Extraordinaire
When we go to dark places we lose sight of the wonders of life. But as we start to heal they resurface and memories & moments of joy return. Remember that however painful it is at the moment just around the corner is that glimmer of light waiting to reveal itself. #mentalhealth #suicideprevention.
🗣️Free Suicide Prevention Resources
We have developed 4 modules, the first one is aimed at anyone with an interest in understanding suicide, the other three modules go into more depth into the psychology of understanding and preventing suicide #Science2PreventSuicide@darkdancer84
Planning a piece commissioned by the Daily Mail on what the Labour government needs to do about mental health provision. If you have any suggestions - especially beyond the obvious, like funding and staffing, continuity of care etc - I would be fascinated to hear them. Thank you
