“The Crisis Started When I Refused His N12.5bn Demand" - DG Adeniyi
— DG Adeniyi says the Chief of Staff asked him for N12.5 billion and all the problem began when he refused to pay.
This man (Prince Adeniyi Matthew) created a fake government agency called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, appointed himself as DG, secured office space at the Federal Secretariat, opened a CBN account in its name, got N1,302,978,784 allocation in 2026 budget, summoned ambassadors to meetings, held strategic sessions with ministers, and even represented Nigeria at international conferences.
The audacity is almost unbelievable. Nigeria never runs short of ‘yan iska.
Some time ago, I had a lengthy conversation with the former Accountant General of Kaduna State who served under Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. Our discussion drifted to what many remember as the good old days in Kaduna, when governance was largely driven by a desire to build institutions, attract investment, and put the interests of the state above personal interests.
He shared several stories about those years, but one in particular has remained with me ever since.
He told me that one of Mallam El-Rufai's biggest priorities as governor was attracting FDI into Kaduna State. According to him, Mallam understood that government alone could not create enough jobs or transform the economy. His strategy was to convince both local and international investors that Kaduna was open for business.
Because the security reports were very messy for Kaduna at that time, that meant countless meetings, presentations, negotiations, and official trips. He said there were periods when Mallam was constantly travelling from one country to another, meeting global investors, development partners, and multinational companies, selling Kaduna's potential and trying to persuade them to invest in the state.
Then he narrated an incident that, in his opinion, perfectly captured Mallam's attitude, and why it is impossible for Mallam to dabble in to public funds.
Within his first year in office, Mallam travelled to Singapore to meet prospective investors. Like every official foreign trip, his estacodes and DTA accumulated over the trip. When the necessary documentation was processed, the total amount came to about $56,000, and the payment file was forwarded to him for approval.
To the surprise of those handling the payment, Mallam declined. Because the prospective investors who invited him had taken full responsibility for the trip. They paid for his flights, accommodation, and other expenses. Since Kaduna State did not bear the cost of the trip, he believed it would be wrong to receive estacodes and DTA from public funds for expenses he never incurred. He instructed that the payment should not be made.
The former AG told me that moments like that reinforced the confidence many members of the administration had in his leadership, and that's when the bad eggs knew it's not business as usual.
Today, they want us to believe this same man took $4000, or $3000 of public funds. How?
We know the kind of leader Mallam Nasir El-Rufai was in Kaduna. For many of us, stories like these explain why we continue to stand firmly with him through his current travails.
The continued detention of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is further evidence of the APC government’s injustice and abuse of power. History will judge those who choose oppression over justice.
I graduated from Ahmadu Bello University in 2004 and my school fees wasn't more than 2,000 Naira per annum. My bed space was 90 Naira throughout the 4 years I spent at Suleiman Hall. That was under the Obasanjo/Atiku administration. There was zero loans. In fact, people with 2:1 and first class CGPA were given 50,000 Naira disbursement by the Federal Government every year. After graduation, the banks and telecoms industries were hiring like never before. Many graduates got competitive foreign scholarships. All for free.
The Tinubu/Shettima people are asking Nigerian students and their parents to celebrate the formation of NELFUND. When did going to the university in Nigeria requires a loan to poor students? How can they pay back when the economy has been stagnant and jobs are impossible to get? How can they pay back when salaries are peanuts and cannot even pay for travel costs to work? How can they pay back when rent is skyrocketing and disconnected from earning of average tenants? How can they pay back when the cost of electricity is exorbitant and running a generator is impossible due to cost of fuel?
If the student loan program is the cardinal achievement of the Tinubu/Shettima administration, then they have failed and deserve to be voted out. There is nothing on the Tinubu/Shettima scorecard that qualify them for a second term. They did nothing and having nothing in their plan for the future. It is a self aggrandisement political project that serves only them and their small group of friends.
Nigerian students alone are in millions. Put your heads together and vote Tinubu out in 2027. Reject him before he makes you perpetual debtors!
