1/ 📄 New paper out in @JPubEcon (joint w/ Carolina Kansikas): Italy's recent reforms extending mayoral term limits to a third term — sold as a fix for candidate scarcity in small towns — quietly slowed women's rise into the top municipal job. 🧵
3/ Comparing municipalities just below vs just above the population thresholds: without the term-limit extensions, the share of women mayors would have been about 8 percentage points higher. The effect is concentrated where women already have a foothold in councils.
