"Luxury Pollution"
#Woodburners release fine particles, PM2.5 that can exacerbate #asthma & other respiratory diseases & in some cases even contribute to #cancer.
The impact on neighbours is always overlooked.

Did you know?
Air pollution causes around 1,700 premature deaths every year in Ireland.
The health impacts fall hardest on children, older adults, and disadvantaged communities.
Clean air is not a luxury, it’s a public health necessity.
Evidence-based action matters.

We all want to stay warm this winter…
but polluted air shouldn’t cost us our health
Smoke and air pollution from everyday activities can seriously affect the air we breathe, indoors and outdoors.

@Landofnod1969@paulpowlesland "Stay indoors” assumes our homes are hermetically sealed labs.
They aren’t. Outdoor smoke happily comes inside through doors, vents, cracks and windows.....that’s called air.
Telling people to hide indoors doesn’t stop pollution harming our health.
Oppressive heat. Species extinctions. Pollution-choked skies.
This is the future that awaits the world unless humanity takes dramatic steps to end a series of mushrooming environmental crises, finds #GEO7.

Public Consultation: Updating Ireland’s Clean Air Strategy
The Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment has opened a public consultation on updating Ireland’s Clean Air Strategy.
This is an important opportunity to shape future actions on air quality, public health and climate, including progress towards WHO air quality guidelines.
Researchers, policymakers, local authorities and community stakeholders are encouraged to engage and share their views.
Car dependency still unresolved 🚗
Ireland’s transport plan invests in EVs and public transport but avoids measures like low-emission zones or congestion charging. EVs help, but don’t cut traffic or pollution alone.
We need fewer car trips, not just cleaner cars.
Our December Science on the 7th conversation has been rescheduled to December 18th!
We'll discuss global & regional cooperation on air quality with Stefan Åström & Helena Varkkey.
