In 5th grade, my son asked me “Mama, is there something wrong with me?” My heart broke, but I kept calm to say no and ask why. White woman teacher in his favorite class (math) wouldn’t stop calling his name. Always on him. He’d be doing same as others but she’d call him out. 1/11
Thinking of Jacob Blake's family. Thinking of the Kenosha community. Thinking of Black folks across the country falling asleep to this news and those who will be waking up to it. I’m sad. I’m furious. I’m tired of seeing this happen over and over and over and over and over again.
Kobe was a legend on the court and just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a second act. To lose Gianna is even more heartbreaking to us as parents. Michelle and I send love and prayers to Vanessa and the entire Bryant family on an unthinkable day.
Women empowering other women
looks like this:
When women support you,
return the favor.
Give back to the women who
give to you.
Don't let the other women you
care about carry the friendship
all alone.
Send positive messages to one
another.
Show up, pitch in, and mean it.
Gentle Soul Lesson:
I do not have to keep holding onto personal narratives that do not serve, or empower me. My life, journey, and story are bigger than any one narrative. Especially one where I was only a victim. My story doesn’t end there. I’m also the hero: who’s rising above
"If a heart becomes attached to anything other than Allah, Allah makes him dependent on what he is attached to. And he will be betrayed by it."
