*The Canadian Heavyweight Title: The Complete History 1978-1984
**From Nanjo to The Sheik: Tales from Toronto Wrestling
***Quick Bits: The best (& rest) of Toronto Wrestling
June 14 1980 Niagara Falls, ON. The Falls a popular wrestling spot way back to the early days of Jack Corcoran & Sammy Sobel. In 1980 the Tunneys added it back to the revamped circuit. The following night they were all at the Gardens in Toronto (Robertson vs Canadian champ Hossein/Iron Sheik, Flair vs Snuka). A great and rare poster from the M-A era! More at the awesome Mid-Atlantic Gateway...

That same year 1932 Happy Day & Maple Leaf teammate Red Horner wrestled at the Gardens for charity and had a pretty good bout.
"...Rounding out the card was a match between two notable members of the Toronto Maple Leafs: team captain Clarence "Happy" Day and penalty leader Reginald "Red" Horner -- both future hall-of-famers. It was the only time in Toronto history that members of the Leafs got involved in a wrestling show.."-Gary Will

Wow! This really was 5 yrs ago! It's true what they say. Time certainly does fly! If you haven't read it, please give it a read. If you read it 5 years ago, it might be time for a refresher. ;-)
It's fairly in-depth and I am sure that you'll enjoy it.

One of my favorite Stranglehold covers from the later years in Toronto. Canadian champ Sgt Slaughter & North American champ Leo Burke. His title from Calgary and intertwined with the East also. The Canadian title was Toronto's own. Slaughter one of the great heels of our M-A era, was a force, scary and tough. Maybe underrated?... I wasn't a big fan of Burke but the feud here with Johnny Weaver in 1982 there was a LOT of rassling, hold after hold after hold. Both of them.π
Toronto promoter Frank Tunney on the cover of the Toronto Star Starweek TV guide in 1973. Sweet Daddy Siki & Hartford Love are in the ring at the CFTO Studio in Scarborough where Live Wrestling from Studio 3 ran from the early 1960s - Happy Sunday! AC
A few cards with Gene Kiniski from this day June 6 in the Toronto territory. Kiniski debuted here in 1956 while Whipper Watson was World champion and returned often through the next four decades. As NWA champ later he defended many times at the Gardens and across the Southern Ontario circuit. Was still a force, and stomping mad on his 1982 and final run here challenging Canadian champion Angelo Mosca. Was at that one! -AC
@MidAtlanticPod Loved these. The Toronto Star & Globe both had them from '85 on. First 'real ratings' compared to what was presented by the Apter mags and WWF π
The weights are cool. Watson was ahead of his time for merchandising putting his name on a ton of stuff. For exercise he also had various weightlifting accessories as well as leg boots, strength bands, and hand grips. Though they mention everything but ...wrestling π They also came with the official Whipper Watson exercise program.
@mapleleafwrest1 I bought some weight plates from a Kijiji ad about a month ago. Took just enough cash with me for what I needed, but the guy had 2 10 lb Whipper Watson plates !
Still wish I'd had more $$$ with me. $#!+
