As someone who runs a server for a 20-year-old MMO, I have to respectfully disagree with the idea that it's infeasible to leave online-only games in a functional state after sunset. The main blocker isn't technical - it's legal. Reverse engineering and community-driven preservation have kept "impossible" games alive for years. The evidence is right there; people have figured it out time and again, just without publisher support and often while dodging lawyers.

No one's pretending this work is easy, or that developer effort doesn't matter. But the private server community shows every day that these games can be preserved - if companies would simply allow it once official support ends. Instead of fighting to shut these projects down, why not let passionate fans do what publishers can't or won't? Of course, any solution should balance preservation with respect for intellectual property, so that both creators and communities benefit in the long run.

That's all the Stop Killing Games initiative is about: giving communities the legal right to keep games alive when publishers move on. We're not asking for miracles or for developers to do extra work - just the chance to preserve these worlds, legally, when the official servers go dark.

We have finally had an update from our host regarding the downtime and that services should be restored within the next few hrs. When the server is back online we will look into fixes for the Advent Calendar quest so that players can receive an extra prize for a day they missed.
