The "teaching block" of corn planted on Aug 31 is a hit with my corn course @RidgetownCampus. Polly and @tuesdayk10 led the class on how to take plant populations, determine actual seeding depths across intentional variable planter depth settings (0.5-3"), learned developmental staging using various methods, and to assess plant-plant variability by planter depth. Visited a Cargill grain terminal located on the Mississippi River. Their location had 4 silos each with a 72,000 bushel capacity. Unfortunately the river was too low to see any barges, which bring the grain down to the Gulf of Mexico.

📍 Fair Oaks Farm
Fair Oaks, Indiana

Toured 1/11 of the dairy farms owned by Fair Oaks Farm. They milk around 37,000 cows and produce 1.4 litres of milk daily. This specific farm had a 75 cow rotary parlour as well as 10 robots. Very cool to see!
