Real-world therapy is relational and individualized. Yet evidence-based modalities rely on research of standardized interventions, minimizing therapist variability. If what we actually do differs substantially from what was tested, what exactly are we calling “evidence-based”?
@ASPertierra So if full it’s 3 days worth? Am I reading that right?
Also, is the 100k/day a perfect no apagones day amount or a barely functioning kinda day amount?

@MJ_Busta It’s unsettling. Even the orgs themselves (no solo Martí) not defending their work, if doing so implies disagreement with the Trump vote. Cult vibes.
@KemtrupTweets Wouldn’t the impact be not necessarily in reducing the incidence of mental illness but in reducing the severity and duration by increasing access to quality care?
@EricAnd62840020 @KemtrupTweets Yes, our field wants to be medicine so bad. We might get there eventually, maybe; but right now it’s much more an art than it is a science.
What expert therapists understand that others do not:
“What the patient does with the therapist in the room always holds a key to what caused her problem, what has kept it going, and what has made it difficult for her to benefit from previous efforts to treat it”
—Mary Jo Peebles
@AhmadRehanKhan Maybe… just maybe… she had questions about the field that could only be answered by deeply studying said field for several years?
I’m not defending her arguments. But if yours is that she studied the subject she’s being critical of for too long before criticizing it… 🥴
If I had one wish for the field of mental health it would be that all clients were matched with the best, most aligned therapist for them on their first try
Problems with medicalising distress 👇
— We are told we should label our experiences not explore them
— Remove our feelings not feel them
— Accept our conditions not change them
*This does *not* mean we are responsible for our suffering, nor that it should not be helped
