Hamas veranderde Gaza in een slachthuis.

Twee jaar nadat Israël eenzijdig alle soldaten, ‘kolonisten’ en Joden uit Gaza had teruggetrokken — de kassen intact had gelaten en de sleutels had overhandigd in naam van de vrede — liet Hamas de wereld zien wat ze met macht doen.

Na de verkiezingen van 2006 te hebben gewonnen, bouwden ze geen staat op. Ze slachtten af.

Op 10 juni 2007, tijdens de laatste fase van de burgeroorlog tussen Fatah en Hamas, grepen Hamas-strijders Mohammed Sweirki, een officier van de elite Palestijnse presidentiële garde. Ze sleepten hem naar het dak van een flatgebouw van vijftien verdiepingen — het hoogste in Gaza — en gooiden hem naar beneden, de dood tegemoet.

Zijn lichaam stortte door de lucht en sloeg met een klap op het beton beneden, een openbare executie bedoeld als boodschap: Dit is wat er met onze vijanden gebeurt.

Fatah sloeg diezelfde nacht terug: ze vermoordden de imam van de Grote Moskee van Gaza en openden het vuur op het huis van Hamas-leider en de pas verkozen premier Ismail Haniyeh.

Vlak voor middernacht grepen Fatah-terroristen een Hamas-strijder en gooiden hem schreeuwend van een gebouw van twaalf verdiepingen.

Executies op daken. Lichamen verbrijzeld op de stoep. Bloed stroomde door de straten van Gaza. Dit was geen politiek of 'verzet'. Dit was rauwe, middeleeuwse wreedheid tussen twee terreurfacties die vochten om de heerschappij over de ruïnes.

Op 14 juni was het voorbij. Hamas voltooide zijn bloedige staatsgreep. Ze grepen de volledige controle over Gaza door middel van moord, intimidatie en terreur – politieke rivalen werden van daken gegooid, tegenstanders werden op straat geëxecuteerd en hun lichamen werden door het stof gesleept.

Zo verwierf Hamas de absolute macht.

Israël vertrok.

De Palestijnen stemden.

Hamas baande zich een weg naar de dictatuur door middel van moord.

En uit die rivier van Arabisch bloed die in 2007 vloeide, stroomde het bloedbad van 7 oktober 2023 voort.

Vergeet nooit hoe deze nachtmerrie eigenlijk begon: niet met 'bezetting', maar met Hamas die, zodra ze de kans kregen, kozen voor barbarij en vernietiging in plaats van vrede en opbouw.

On This Day — June 1, 1967

In case anyone still doubts the genocidal intent of the Arab armies massed on Israel’s borders just days before the Six Day War, the Chairman of the PLO made it crystal clear.

Ahmed Shukairy stated in a Friday sermon in Jerusalem:

“This is a fight for the homeland – it is either us or the Israelis. There is no middle road. The Jews of Palestine will have to leave. We will facilitate their departure to their former homes. Any of the old Palestine Jewish population who survive may stay, but it is my impression that none of them will survive.”

He added:

“We shall destroy Israel and its inhabitants and as for the survivors — if there are any — the boats are ready to deport them.”

This was the official leader of the PLO speaking before Israel had fired a single shot — while the Jewish state was still entirely inside the 1949 armistice lines (the so-called “67 borders”). No “occupation,” no “settlements,” no control over the "West Bank" (then Jordanian) or Gaza (Egyptian).

The actual goal was simple: total destruction of the Jewish state and the extermination or expulsion of its Jews.

Yet today, the same movement and its defenders still pretend the conflict began with the “occupation” that only existed after Israel survived yet another attempt at its annihilation.
