Our CFO asked me to "audit" our software subscriptions last week.
He sent me a spreadsheet with 200 rows. Slack, Zoom, Jira, Notion, Trello, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
He wanted me to survey the team to see which tools were essential.
I told him: "Surveys are for people who care about feelings. I care about OpEx."
I deleted the spreadsheet.
Instead, I logged into the corporate Amex portal and reported the card as lost.
Every single auto-renewal in the company failed instantly.
I call this "The Scream Test."
It’s simple Darwinian procurement.
If a tool goes down and nobody runs to my desk screaming within 4 hours? We didn't need it.
The Marketing team was at my door in 10 minutes begging for Adobe. We renewed it. The Sales team was crying about the CRM in 20 minutes. We renewed it.
But here’s the interesting part.
The HR department’s "Employee Wellness & Engagement Portal" ($12,000/year) has been down for six days.
Not a single person has noticed.
I didn't just save money. I quantified the exact value of our corporate culture.
It is zero.
Stop auditing. Start unplugging. If it’s important, they’ll scream. If they don't scream, it’s just noise.

The V1 and V2 era of Starship has concluded after a largely successful 2.5-year run, defined by iterative development through progress, setbacks, and triumphs.
In this timeframe, SpaceX has:
- Demonstrated ten straight reliable ascents of history’s most powerful rocket booster, Super Heavy, frequently with 33/33 Raptor engines but also proving reliable engine-out capability
- Proven hot-staging as a viable technique for a reusable vehicle of this size
- Returned three boosters to Starbase to be caught by the same tower they launched from
- Re-flown two of those boosters
- Demonstrated Raptor re-lights in space and deployment of Starlink satellite simulators
- Completed five soft splashdowns of the Starship upper stage, with four precisely on target
The above would not be possible without the iterative development mindset that makes SpaceX so special. While that development is not over, the future will see a matured Starship design whose reliability and robustness is critical to begin flying operational missions.
In the coming months and into 2026, SpaceX will aim to:
- Complete Pad 2 at Starbase
- Finish builds of the first Starship V3 hardware, which includes the upgraded Super Heavy booster and upper stage Starship
- Demonstrate in-space propellant transfer as to refill Starship on-orbit, a critical feature of the overall infrastructure
- Deploy payloads from Starship, including Starlink satellites
- Return Starship to Starbase for catch by the tower just like Super Heavy
- Re-fly Starship, demonstrating reusability of its heat shield
- Begin flying missions from Florida
The most exciting time to be alive is now.
I kinda think this looks like way more fun. None of the usual boring formalities, media, and forced smiles.
Just you, your friends and colleagues organically celebrating superhuman efforts in the way you want to.
It looks scary, but that wing flex is an example of incredible engineering.
You’re obviously worried the wing will break, but it won’t! Without getting too technical, we fly at a speed that ensures the airplane will “stall” before it over-stresses the airframe & does damage.
If it stalls…well, passengers are not going to enjoy that, but they will survive. The stall takes the lift off the wings, which means they are no longer carrying the airplane & are under very little stress. You can think of it like a safety feature where just as a limit is going to be reached, the airplane resets itself to zero.
Which is a lot better than over-stressing the airframe. That’s when things start breaking (though not necessarily the wings first).
