We received a report from a local fisherman who was threatened at gunpoint 30miles offshore by armed men—one foreign, one Somali—guarding a foreign fishing fleet. He was ordered to leave or be killed. Somali fishermen are intimidated in their own waters @HarunMaruf@ShabelleMedia
Abandoned fish nets, or 'ghost nets,' are silently devastating our oceans. They trap marine life, destroy habitats, and contribute to plastic pollution. It's time to take action—support sustainable fishing and cleanup efforts to protect our oceans. 🌊🐟 #SaveOurSeas#GhostNets
The first a satellite launch facility in Africa will be established in Somalia later this, the president of Somalia @HassanSMohamud told the parliament on Saturday.
The facility which is being built by Turkey (per media reports) is expected to create thousands of jobs and opportunities for Somalis, he said.
Hassan Sheikh gave an update of the work of the Turkish oil exploration ship , Oruc Reis, which started late last year.
He said the main challenge the exploration faced is the size of abandoned fishing nets on the seabed which is hindering the imaging of the seabed. He it shows the severity of the impact from the illegal foreign fishing vessels in Somali waters.
Only 71 out of 110 required members have ratified it so far.
These changes are vital for protecting global fish stocks, ensuring marine ecosystem health, and supporting communities reliant on fisheries.

Fishermen from Marka town found a mysterious barrel, potentially with chemical waste inside.
(But why did they brought it to the beach? And why are they allowing the kids to touch this potential hazard?)
🚨Worldwide, 100,000 + fishers die each year🚨
We want to know the biggest challenges to the African fishing sector.
