@capposmiffy@ftolchinsky And if you have any doubts, the indigenous peoples of Tierra del Fuego inhabited the islands even before they were discovered by the French. The islands have always belonged, at the very least, to Southamerica. What are the British doing on an island more than 10000 km from London?
@capposmiffy@ftolchinsky This is why the principle of selfdetermination does not apply in this case: the population was intentionally introduced to maintain the illegal occupation of the territory. We do not want to expel them, but they should acknowledge that the Falkland Islands are Argentine territory
@capposmiffy@ftolchinsky After France and Great Britain attempted to attack the port on the Paraná River, another British fleet occupied the islands, expelled the Argentine population, and forcibly settled its own people there.
@capposmiffy@ftolchinsky Here's another mistake. After Great Britain attempted to invade Buenos Aires twice, the Spanish government occupied the islands by appointing a governor, and later the revolutionary government took control of them with Argentine settlers.
@capposmiffy@ftolchinsky If you're going to lecture others about "colonialism," you should first acknowledge your own history and how your country invokes the principle of self-determination when it serves its own interests.
@capposmiffy@ftolchinsky The people living in the Malvinas Islands are British settlers who were established there after the British fleet invaded the islands and expelled the Argentine inhabitants.
