France just recorded its hottest day ever as a deadly heatwave hits the country.
France’s average temperature hit 29.8°C on Tuesday, the highest ever recorded nationwide. Officials say at least 40 people have drowned since June 18 while trying to cool off in rivers, lakes, and other unsupervised swimming areas as extreme heat pushed temperatures above 40°C in parts of the country. The heatwave has also caused power outages, school closures, and widespread weather alerts across France and other parts of Europe.
