On Monday, President Trump urged other countries to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz to help open up the crucial oil shipping route in the Middle East. The war with Iran has led to a slowing of shipments through the Strait and many commercial vessels have been targeted in strikes.

"The United States of America has beaten and completely decimated Iran, both Militarily, Economically, and in every other way, but the Countries of the World that receive Oil through the Hormuz Strait must take care of that passage, and we will help — A LOT!" Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social.

While speaking to press at the Kennedy Center on Monday, the president said numerous countries told him they were on their way to help in the Strait, though he did not specify which countries would be assisting the U.S. "Some are very enthusiastic about it, and some aren't."
