Aliaksandr Milinkevich dedicated his life to the fight for democracy in Belarus.

All of us at @Europarl_EN are deeply saddened by his passing. The 2006 Sakharov Prize laureate was forced into exile, but he never gave up on his country or his vision of a free Belarusian society.

His courage and legacy will stay with us. Europe continues to stand with the people of Belarus.

With a heavy heart, I learned of the passing of Aliaksandr Milinkevich, a prominent Belarusian pro-democratic politician and presidential candidate in the 2006 election.

A man of exceptional dignity, a kind soul and a brilliant mind, he was a true point of reference for many of us.

For me, Aliaksandr was a source of support and wisdom, whose advice I always valued deeply.

His devotion to Belarus, our language and culture, and his ability to unite and support people in the most difficult moments will remain with us.

My deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and everyone who held Aliaksandr dear.

@ZbysekStodulka @RokosMilan @PepaKopecky @slaviaofficial V Edenu se pravidla nedodržují dlouho - při vstupu jsou pečlivé kontroly, ale pyro a dýmovnice se na stadionu stejně objevují. To nemůže být bez vědomí klubu. Nechápu, proč Tvrdík teď mluví o radikalizaci TS od ledna, a nic nedělal. Jen přenáší vinu na fanoušky. Šli tomu naproti.

@RokosMilan @PepaKopecky @slaviaofficial V Belgii hrozí za vběhnutí na hřiště nebo hození kelímku pokuty od 1000 EUR výš - jasně dané návštěvním řádem, doložené kamerami a transparentně komunikované na stadionu. V Edenu chce Tvrdík zavádět protiprávní face recognition po vzoru Číny místo standardního postihu.

Jan Palach era un giovane studente cecoslovacco che il 16 gennaio del 1969 sacrificò la propria vita per protestare contro l’oppressione sovietica e l’annientamento della libertà del suo popolo. Il suo gesto estremo fu un grido contro il totalitarismo, un atto di coraggio che scosse l’Europa e che resta un monito eterno: la democrazia non è sempre scontata, va difesa e custodita ogni giorno. Jan Palach è un martire europeo della libertà, non dimentichiamolo.

Jaromír Štětina, journalist, writer and former MEP has passed away in his beloved Czechia.

He was a giant, a force of nature. I am proud to have known him, prouder still to have worked with him and honoured to call him a friend.

Rest in peace dear Jaromír. We will miss you 🇪🇺🇨🇿

In Belarus, the regime uses the "disobedience to prison administration" charge to pressure political prisoners. Without real proof, they extend politically motivated sentences. Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk just received another year, and Mikalai Dziadok now faces new charges.
