@Monica55dzrh Yes! Mine’s wooden too, bought in 1968 in readiness for marriage in 1969 and it cost just ten shillings from the local Co-op! That’s 50 pence in today’s money. Had many a nice cover on but still use it on a weekly basis.

@Matt_Pinner Growing up here in Lancashire it was a turnip. Also used to make Halloween lanterns. Latterly the new fad is to call it a swede. Ok I’m getting on in years but to me it will never be a swede!!
