Accurate, eloquent and level-headed response and corrective from @NUQatar student Maria Lisboa Ward. - A response to Eli Kronenberg by an NU-Q student

In Opinion:
“By affiliating a local institution of higher education with one of America’s foremost journalism schools, Qatar seeks to attach legitimacy to its repressive media environment,” writes Assistant Opinion Editor Eli Kronenberg. https://t.co/LRQsYhqvGC
@EliKronenberg Interesting choice of guidelines. Your “fact checked” claims showed up on my classes here once or twice as case studies of misinformation. Seems like the work wasn’t thorough enough.
@marcowenjones@thedailynu Disappointed, angry, frustrated. Had to let the bloody Islamophobic freshman speak hadn’t them? Bloody racist prick didn’t even bother to hyperlink his (not fact-checked) sources. Ridiculous.
Disappointing that this op-ed the @thedailynu is very poorly fact checked. The 6500 figure is false, the fact that Israel/US supported funding for Hamas is not mentioned. The fact Al Jazeera won Broadcaster of the year at New York Festivals TV and Film Awards in 2024 for the 8th year in a row is also not even mentioned. When teaching op-ed writing you should always include a counter argument, which the piece does, but it does not mean one should include misinformation as a strawman. It also does not mention Northwestern's partnerships in Israel, whose PM and minister are wanted for crimes against humanity, and who are supplied by US weapons. That's quite an elephant in the room, as is a journalism student attacking the press. 😪

What actually is the value of a liberal arts education if students can’t peacefully protest on campus ground? What is the point of promoting democratic values if university students can’t exercise it on campus ground? It’s too dystopian to be ignored.
Sixteen student researchers from @NUQatar join @IAS_NUQ as part of its third incoming cohort of its Global Undergraduate Fellowship program. As part of their fellowships, they will lead research projects on cultural, economic, and social issues across Africa, South Asia, and Latin America.
