#Fleadh Road Closure update 🚫🚧⛔️
Due to high footfall organisers have taken the decision to close the roads directly in front of and to the sides of #Belfast City Hall to all traffic from 5am on Wednesday.
Honoured to be receiving a Bardic Award from CCÉ this evening, presented by the President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly.
This music has given me a lifetime of friendships, inspiration and opportunities, & I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of that journey.🎻
The IDF has demolished part of a school and kindergarten in Shi‘b al-Batem, the West Bank, which served children from several communities across Masafer Yatta. The building is in Area C, which covers 60% of the West Bank, where Palestinians are effectively barred from building, even within their own villages.
In Area C, Palestinians are obligated to obtain a construction permit from the IDF; with a “generous” approval rate of less than one percent. To understand more about the permit system, as well as the larger mechanism of the occupation, read our testimony booklet “Military Rule” on our website.
Since October 2023, attacks on the Palestinian education system have intensified. Israel has withheld the Palestinian Authority’s tax revenues for more than a year. As a result, teachers receive only a fraction of their salaries, and most schools operate only partially. In Gaza, most schools have been destroyed by the IDF, and only a minority of children have access to regular education.

It also served as a kindergarten. Why can't Palestinians build a school within their own village, you may ask? Well, it's because it was built in Area C (60% of the West Bank) where Palestinians are effectively barred from building. In Area C, Palestinians are obligated to obtain a construction permit from the IDF, with a “generous” approval rate of less than one percent.
This morning, the IL Civil Administration demolished two rooms (a library and office) of the school in Sha'eb al-Bottom, Masafer Yatta.
International inaction allows the Israeli campaign to displace Palestinians from Area C to continue unchallenged.
NEW: Follow up to my story from May. The Secretary of State has removed David Lavery from his post as Commissioner of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission with immediate effect.
Sadly, this goes far beyond the authorities merely "allowing it to happen." Settler terrorists are protected and armed by the IDF and receive state funding. The very establishment of settler outposts from which they attack Palestinian villages is coordinated by the IDF.
Traditional music lovers were treated to some tunes on the barge as Belfast Fleadh enters its third day.
There is another packed schedule of gigs, events and performances on Tuesday as the festival continues to gather pace.

The old electricity works on Chapel Lane, Belfast.
A building that has been vacant for years, recently listed for sale.
The question I have during the Fleadh is, why has it taken us so long to utilise these spaces, the most packed a Monday night has been in town in my lifetime.
Just putting it out there as a travel option for people heading to Belfast for the Fleadh (as I don't think there's enough awareness). There are 3 park & rides, priced at £10 per vehicle, with free shuttle buses running. https://t.co/g2LeIzeQVF
There is a shocking lack of accountability for the atrocities committed by ISIS fighters and supporters against Yazidi women. ‘While nearly half of the 850 people of national security concern who left the UK for the Syrian conflict have returned, not a single British Daesh member has been successfully prosecuted in UK courts for international crimes (such as genocide, war crimes, or crimes against humanity)’ Yazidi survivors continue to ask why not - and demand justice, 12 years on
The largest funeral in Palestinian history is about to be held….And there are still many more thousands of bodies yet to be recovered from beneath the Gaza rubble after more than two years of intense Israeli air strikes
An immigrant family has fled their Co Down home after two children were injured during an attack by masked men on Sunday night.
Two children were left with “grazes to their face and shoulder” after stones were thrown through the front window of their Holywood home in a racially-motivated hate crime.
Only in today's Israel can a commander who wiped out 3 refugee camps and dozens of villages, ethnically cleansed 44,000+ Palestinians, and razed thousands of olive trees, be sacked because he refused to cancel the house arrest of a settler suspected of brutal sexual assault.
Early birds at the Ormeau Park campsite woke up on Monday ready for another full day at the Fleadh.
Hannah Patterson spoke to campers who have travelled to Beflast for the week, from places including Dublin, Omagh and even as far as Australia.
The IDF's West Bank commander, an extremist settler himself, directly oversees a state policy of violent ethnic cleansing. But that’s not enough—he was just reportedly fired live on air for questioning the lenient treatment of a settler accused of sexually abusing a Palestinian.
Gaza is set to witness tomorrow what is expected to be the largest funeral in Palestinian history, as the remains of 112 victims from the Abu Sharia and Al-Hasayna families will be laid to rest. Their bodies were recovered from among the 308 people killed in the massacre carried out by the Israeli army during the genocidal war in Gaza, after having remained missing beneath the rubble.
