@ShiftParadigm A2: Unfortunately not enough. I use discussion questions/jamboards a lot in class which help, but there is definitely still too much 'teacher voice' in my classroom. #WhatIsSchool
@deem_ellen@ShiftParadigm It doesn't change in HS. Especially when completing a writing assignment. They all suddenly need me for everything! Listen to those that you know need the extra attention, and ensure the others they can accomplish it alone. #WhatIsSchool
@deem_ellen@ShiftParadigm It is so hard because we always want to 'solve' whatever problem they are talking about, or reply with our own thoughts about the subject at hand. #WhatIsSchool
@SarahBWessling@straight_facs I totally agree with this! I honor questions in my classroom, and it has changed so much for students. I often hear, "Why don't other teachers let us question them?" Answer: idk #mtholyokechat
@straight_facs I love creating social contracts with the kids; this often helps them understand why their behavior is not helpful to the classroom. Then, I praise them about something they are really good at (genuine praise) and usually give them a cool job to do for me. #mtholyokechat
@mandysheehan Tell them right away that we are all new to this! Then the imposter syndrome goes away a little bit. Community building starts with a little vulnerability.
