Research in human health is rewarding (academically & financially speaking) & bringing "chemicals" into discussion boosts media coverage & potentially funding. Paraquat is topical as is APVMA.

@lissagiedraitis It was in the magazine section of the Oz, it is easy reading, not hard news. Today "at home with the Franklins" is a feature story. I am sure that many will have their own view about Buddy & scoff at the journalism. I call bs on health & well being features often.

Justified because the profits are returned to the community via grants & a large dose of social engineering.

@DrCameronMurray The incentives that no-one thinking up these solutions ever considers. For eg, every anti-smoking & anti-alcohol public health expert needs to listen to Christopher Snowdon or similar economist as to why we have black market ciggies & fire bombing.

Well worth a read as it helps explain our voting & party system relative to others. The Labor party & elements of the media are keen to see a coalition so that they can shout racist ad nauseam. Preferencing is a seat by seat decision.

@PeterRobins350 The terms "independent & grassroots" are doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Trade unions are a funding source & Carmen Lawrence is another commissioner. It is a vanity/distraction move. The front bar of the OBH likely to have more independence & expertise.

@parnellpalme Excellent framing of the situation we are now in. Many want "society" to deliver everything for a comfortable life with the choice of not making any effort to gain those benefits. Individual responsibility & choice is removed at many levels.

@floyds63 @Jusakstud No. But the BOM does need to be examined closely to see if it is delivering the services we expect as a modern first world country alone on a continent. Perhaps, like the ABC it can be replaced in part by contestable services, delivered by others.
