Had a blast!! It's crazy to think of how our everyday habits contribute to noise pollution. 37% of the oil we use comes from deep-sea oil rigs. Oil exploration in the ocean results in a massive quantity of noise pollution.
Filmed our marine science in society video today! We experienced noise pollution first hand as we watched thousands of people board a giant cruise ship. Although sound travels 4 times faster in water, so I’m sure our fishy friends heard it much more than us!
Jordan pointed out a few really good tips on how to spot a rip current! Sometimes it may be difficult to spot a rip which is why it is important to always swim between the flags on the beach. In addition, if you do get stuck in a rip, swim parallel to the shore to escape the rip.
Rips can be used by surfers to get out into the waves. However, they can be incredibly dangerous. There are three primary ways of identifying a rip. 1. Deeper and/or darker water 2. Fewer breaking waves 3. A different wave texture
Today in class we were researching sustainability and I found an article about the Australian Government's support of ocean energy in order to transition to net zero emissions. I am curious about how these energy sources may harm marine life.
